UTMB : The Dream and the Struggle | with Katarzyna Solińska and her support team
The story of a dream performance in 2023, followed by another marked by challenges and disappointments in 2024. Katarzyna and her support team will share the story of two very different, inspiring experiences at the UTMB. The first was a dream come true: Katarzyna finished 6th women on the legendary 170 km course after a solid and well-executed race, filled with pride, joy, and a deep sense of fulfillment. The second, only a year later, turn into a nightmare. Due to severe gastrointestinal issues, the race turned into a painful struggle with every step, as she walked from kilometer 90 with a single goal: to reach the finish line in Chamonix, 31 hours after the start. These are two sides of the same journey: the dream and the struggle. Both deeply meaningful, both rich in lessons. The presentation will offer a unique perspective on the athlete and the support team, how they lived through each experience, what they learned, how it shaped them, and what it left behind. It’s an honest and emotional story about endurance, vulnerability, resilience, and the raw beauty of mountain trail running, even in its most difficult moments.
Saturday 7:00 to 8:00
Early Rise Vertical session at les Planards
A dynamic trail clinic with Chloë, time to have fun and learn the best way to develop your watts and strength for the climbs and speed and confidence for the descents. We will also work on drills to optimize mechanics and skills for climbing with poles. This hour will change the way you think and train for the vertical! Don’t forget your poles. Followed by coffee at Plan B Hotel.

Protecting your eyes from the mountain elements
In this Masterclass with Florence van Hasselt we will deep dive into the importance of eye protection from sun, altitude, dust, wind, night running… and the specific benefits of eyewear for trail runners. You will gain a deeper understanding of UV light, Visible Light Transmission (VLT), and how lens coatings offer effective protection. Eyewear not only protects from UV light, but also from numerous other elements that has effect on the running experience. Join us to test Nike Vision eyewear for yourself throughout the weekend!
Saturday 9:30 to 10:30
The fascinating world of data to optimize performance
Unfortunately the masterclass is no longer available.
Meet Joseph Mestrallet in this masterclass, a data scientist wizard to help you understand how to prioritize data to progress. Dive into the fascinating world of data used to optimize performance, discover the tech behind racing strategies and meet the famous digital twins who model the physiological potential of top-level athletes. Learn how you can monitor down to the finest impact the external load during training and so much more. Innovative and practical!

Why you get injured, stay injury free!
In this masterclass Chloë Lanthier will share her extensive knowledge on WHY we get injured, HOW to prevent injuries and WHY tissue tolerance and mechanics are so important. She will share videos and photos of case studies of trail runners to better identify the mechanism of different injuries according to running style, morphology, terrain, musculoskeletal imbalances, etc. She will also cover the runner’s kinetic chain, pain and tissue tolerance between muscles, tendons and ligaments, as well as the causes of recurrent overuse injuries. Come ask questions and get answers!

Strong Strides!
A dynamic strength routine is essential to a runner’s training: prepare your legs for the single track, the vertical and the distance. The opportunity to get all the tools to develop and maintain a powerful runner’s body with Chloë’s progressive exercises and drills specific to running. She will also share key exercises for tendons and elasticity. Take home a run specific strength program. Also a chance to learn key injury prevention strategies. All participants will get a skipping rope!

Saturday 15:00 to 16:00
Running in the heat and its effect on the body and performance
In this masterclass Chloë Lanthier will explore the physiology of heat exposure and thermoregulation; how the body responds to long duration exercise in extreme heat (30°C+) and high level of humidity. From heart rate, sweat rate, muscular output, hydration, fueling, perceived effort, heatstroke, gastrointestinal issues… and the mental (brain) factor! Acclimitization vs adaptation. Leave with invaluable strategies to optimize your preparation to train and compete in very hot and humid environments. Chloë will share her in-depth scientific knowledge and experience racing long distances in extreme heat, including the Sahara.

The Physiology of Ultra’s : how to be the best athlete you can be, from mindset to physical progression and performance!
Chloë and her special guests will share decades of expertise in long-distance performance physiology and coaching athletes of all levels to success.
An opportunity to learn important training, racing and recovery strategies that will help you progress and achieve your goal ; both mentally and physically. We will also share our experiences and case studies of trail and ultra-runners whose potential was limited by key factors overlooked in training as well as the step we took to unlock their physiology. The fundamental training principles we have been using for decades in long distance sports like cycling, Ironman triathlon, cross country skiing and road running, many are virtually nonexistant in the world of ultra and trail running. Mostly because we are now in an era of online coaching and very few coaches are actually professionals or have a solid understanding of the practical application of the science of exercise physiology.
We welcome runners of all levels and we will answer all of your questions!
We will also cover:
- Importance of watts training
- Internal metrics to focus on
- Efforts & thresholds
- Economy and oxygenation ; optimizing the physiology of your kinetic chain.
- Important and overestimated data
- Brain physiology ; mental strategies to apply to training that will truly change your mindset for racing
- Why 50% of the UTMB participants DNF
- When passion meets preparation
- Fake research, myths and fads
